The next module of the tree warden training covered the pruning of older fruit trees over two weekends. First the theory was explained, then the focus was on pruning in a meadow orchard on two Saturdays. Regular pruning of fruit trees is important to maintain the trees for a long time, to ensure stability and to have a good harvest.

Despite the still cool temperatures, spring is slowly making itself felt.

Our nocturnal birds of prey have not waited for it and are already beginning their courtship display. From February you can hear the characteristic call of the tawny owl, but also the other songs of our nocturnal birds of prey (barn owl, little owl, long-eared owl, eagle owl, etc.).

The search for the little owl, the target species of the LIFE project Bats & Birds, will be resumed. And you? Have you heard it before?

This weekend’s woody plant management module offered participants the opportunity to learn more about the maintenance of hedges, shrubs and specimen trees and their important function for the fauna of our landscape. After the theoretical part, examples were shown in the landscape.

The next part of the tree warden training was held on this very cold weekend: The pruning of young fruit trees. Pruning is, after planting, another step to create the ideal conditions for long-lasting and healthy trees. During this part of the module, the participants could put the knowledge of the theoretical course into practice.

The tree warden training has started with the module “Tree Planting”. In cool temperatures, the participants were shown what is important when planting trees, fruit trees in particular, and what to look out for. Likewise, the basis of young tree pruning was laid with the theoretical course on this topic.
